Utility Vehicles
Sales
Info,
Husqvarna
Husqvarna's HUV utility vehicles make working off-road to transport materials and tools easy. The HUV 4x4 models incorporate automatic 4-wheel drive, high/low gearing and a differential lock system, making the vehicles easy to use and dependable for transportation needs. The HUV SureFoot 4x4 system automatically sends power to the tires with the most traction as the driving conditions demand. To prevent inefficient tire spin, enhance control, and reduce tire wear, front and rear differential locks ensure that power and torque are automatically transferred to the wheels with traction. The SureFoot 4x4 system engages "on the fly" to keep the HUV moving through challenging terrain. The HUV series consists of 3 models: HUV4220, 400-cc, 13-hp. Kawasaki engine; HUV4420, 614-cc, 20-hp. Honda engine; and HUV4420-D, 719-cc, 20-hp. Kubota diesel engine. The HUV 4220 comes with a 4x2 drive train, while the HUV4420 and HUV4420-D have 4x4 drive trains with all-wheel traction. Ideal for landscapers, groundskeepers or any professionals needing to haul outdoor power equipment and supplies, each model is equipped with a 15.1-cubic-foot steel bed with a 1,050-pound load capacity. The HUVs can reach speeds up to 25 mph and easily maneuver over all types of terrain. All 3 HUV models are built using a rustproof aircraft-grade (T6061 aluminum) frame and chassis featuring a double A-arm front suspension. Additionally, the HUV 4x4 models have 4-wheel hydraulic disc brakes.

Online Education: A New Frontier
BY
STEVEN JAY PORUS, Publisher of LandsMagazine
The culmination of 9 months of hardware and software integration premiered on March 23rd for LandsExpo's OnlineClassroom at www.GreenIndustryEducation.com.
Four features were necessary to provide continuing education credits. The OnlineClassroom needed to include streaming audio/video of the speakers, their PowerPoint presentations, and a vehicle for the online attendee to ask the speaker questions. Then for continuing education accreditation, we needed to track the attendee's login and logout for each session. This seems pretty simple, however, as in any new frontier, there is the theory and there is the unexpected.
OnlineClassroom began testing on February 1st. We tested Windows 98, 2000 and XP. We tested Mac OS 9 and 10. Then came the Internet browsers and the various connection from dial-up to T-1 and everything in between. We discovered that software settings for browsers, QuickTime and Java affected the quality of the classroom. We also discovered that no matter what version of AOL, unless their customers used Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, they could not see one or all of the OnlineClassroom features.
We posted our findings for LandsExpo online attendees. We offered links for FREE downloads of Explorer, QuickTime and Java. Regardless of our precautions, many LandsExpo online attendees had problems with the classroom. The day of the event is not the time to be dealing with that. LandsExpo was the first online conference for many attendees and it proved to be a frustrating experience for some.
I have personally talked and/or emailed most LandsExpo attendees about what worked, what didn't work. I want to personally thank all online attendees at LandsExpo for their input. LandsExpo had another challenge. Sprint, LandsExpo's T-1 broadband provider, made the connection live after the first sessions had started. Additionally, there were audio problems after the connection was live. This added even more frustration for online attendees.
Notice to all registered March 23rd Online Landsexpo Attendees: Send an Email regarding your OnlineClassroom experience and you will receive complementary access to all available pre-recorded sessions from March 23rd for your viewing.
We are in the process of redesigning all websites to better serve the Landscape Industry. The new sites will be live on or before May 1st. One of the new features will be a demo session for OnlineClassroom that will both explain features and test visitor's PCs. The demo will include all features offered in "Live" broadcasts from future HortiGenomics Conferences and LandsConferences, as well as "Pre-recorded" LandsExpos.
The OnlineClassroom Demo Session will be available at:

www.GreenMediaOnline.com

OnlineClassroom's next event is LandsConference at the International Lawn, Garden & Power Equipment Exposition. The event will be held on October 14-16,2005 at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. For more details, visit www.LandsConference.com.

Controlling Anthracnose
Wednesday, May 18, 2005
5:00:00 PM -6:30:00 PM
This webcast is held online at 5 p.m. (Central).
Golf Course Superintendents Association of America
Controlling anthracnose is more than spraying fungicides. It requires good management practices, such as adequate nitrogen fertility, proper mowing heights, plant growth regulators for seedhead control and stress management, reduced verticutting and proper fungicide application techniques. Dr. Clarke will discuss the latest and greatest recommendations on the management of anthracnose on Poa annua greens, while Dr. Agnew will provide an overview of the effects of water volume and nozzle selection of disease control.
Learning Objectives:
To provide the most up-to-date information in the control of anthracnose. The participant will be given specific recommendations on fungicide selection and management practices. To provide up-to-date information on water volume and nozzle selection to improve fungicide efficacy.
Instructor(s):
Bruce Clarke, Ph.D., is professor of turfgrass pathology and is Director of the Center for Turfgrass Science at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey. The principle focus of Clarke's research deals with the identification and control of abiotic and biotic diseases associated with cool-season turfgrasses. Research findings have been utilized by turf managers to reduce pesticide use through improved management strategies. Through recent research on anthracnose conducted in Clarke's lab, three new fungicide chemistries have been identified for the control of this important disease.
Michael Agnew, Ph.D., is the Senior Technical Manager for Syngenta Professional Products. He has been teaching "Calculations and Practical Mathematics for Use in Golf Course Management" with Nick Christians, Ph.D., for GCSAA for nearly 10 years. In Spring 2002, he and Bruce Clarke, Ph.D., presented "Dollar Spot and Anthracnose Management: Beyond the Basics," the half-day webcast that piloted the Lunch & Learn series.
